Anti-FHR-5 Antibody: Clone 5.1
Anti-FHR-5: clone 5.1, is a mouse monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes human full-length Complement Factor H-related protein 5 (FHR-5). FHR-5 has a molecular weight of approximately 65 kDa and is synthesized and secreted primarily by the liver. However, it is also secreted and synthesized by immune cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Structurally, it shares homology with Complement Factor H (CFH), a key regulatory protein in the complement system.
Also FHR-5 is part of the complement regulatory network, predominantly within the alternative pathway (AP) of the complement system. It binds to numerous host ligands, including C3b, heparin, CRP, PTX3, and components of the extracellular matrix. Studies indicate that FHR-5 enhances AP activation on cell surfaces by serving as a platform for AP C3 convertase formation. It may also compete with CFH for surface ligand binding, reducing CFH’s regulatory activities.
Genetic variants in the CFHR5 gene are related to diseases such as atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In addition, circulating and glomerular FHR-5 associates with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and familial C3 glomerulopathy (C3G). However, contradictory outcomes regarding its involvement highlight the need for further research to understand the need for further research.
